This lustrous, eye-appealing coin is almost mint state at MS 63.
It perhaps comes as a surprise to the casual coin collector that Germany held a large colony which today is modern Tanzania. In 1918 with the close of WWI and Germany’s loss, it had to relinquish control of the colony.
The obverse features a curious portrait of Wilhelm II with a very ornate helmet topped by an imperial eagle.
The reverse features the German coat of arms. Minted in Berlin.
